A 105 year-old Mercedes that spent its early life in outback Queensland is expected to fetch up to $1 million at auction in Germany.
The 1909 Mercedes Simplex is thought to be one of the oldest of its type and served as the manager’s car on Isis Downs, a remote sheep station in Queensland, until the 1930s.
It has a 5.3-litre engine developing 26kW. It was purchased and restored in the mid-80s. The outback Mercedes is one of 40 historic vehicles up for auction at Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart on July 12.

Professor Stewart Trost, from the University of Queensland’s Centre for Research on Exercise, Physical Activity and Health, says games such as Xbox Kinect have been used successfully to address childhood obesity.
“Parents concerned about their children being sedentary and playing too many video or computer games should also consider active video games as a way to increase physical activity and motivation to exercise,’’ Trost says. “Within the gaming culture are people who have trouble developing relationships in the real world and often prioritising their activities,’’ says Adelaide University associate professor Paul Delfabbro.
